The purpose of the Strategic Directioning is to formulate the guidelines for the growth, recomposition, restructuring and improvement of the School. The basis of this direction is a diagnosis of the general situation of engineering in the country, its environment and trends in the near future. The study identifies the projects that must be carried out to meet the proposed goals.

For the orientation of the Strategic Direction of the School of Engineering, the Strategic Development Plan 2015-2025 of the Universidad del Valle, adopted by the Superior Council in session on October 30, 2015, and its modifications, was taken as a starting point. This document presents the main basic and strategic indicators of the University, an analysis of the national and international context with emphasis on relevant aspects of the current situation, trends in public higher education and, in addition, the role of the University in the consolidation of the Colombian higher education system and its research and development component.

The updating of the Strategic Direction of the Faculty began in December 2020. The following activities were carried out:

• December 23 - 2020: Resolution N°107 of the Superior Council - Programmatic Plan 2021-2024.
• January 12 - 2021: Presentation to the Faculty Council of the Methodological Proposal for the DE-FI 2021-2025. 
• January 12 - 2021: Submission for review and update of the 2018-2020 Projects matrix by Academic Unit.
• February 02 and 16 - 2021: Presentation to the Faculty Council of the update of the SWOT matrix by strategic axes and working groups.
• April 27 - 2021: Presentation by OPDI to the Faculty Council on the process of updating the Strategic Direction of the Faculties.
• June 15 - 2021: Presentation to the Faculty Council of the proposed Strategic Initiatives by working groups.
• September 21 - 2021: Presentation to the Faculty Council of the Strategic Initiatives and Projects 2021-2025.
• December 2021: Submission to the Office of Planning and Institutional Development (OPDI) of the Strategic Direction Update document 2021-2025 of the School of Engineering and its projects.

For the articulation of the Strategic Direction of the Faculty with the PED of the University, the 46 Strategic Initiatives resulting from the SWOT analysis were used as a starting point, then 14 strategies were identified to guide the Strategic Direction of the Faculty.

The strategic articulation between the strategies defined for the Direction of the School of Engineering is evidenced in the relationship of each of the 14 strategies with the transformations, institutional programs and result indicators that are part of the University's Strategic Development Plan and its Programmatic Plan. 

The last phase of the Strategic Direction of the School of Engineering consisted of defining the Strategic Projects, with which it is expected to comply with the strategic objectives of the School and the articulation with the Strategic Development Plan of the Universidad del Valle 2015-2025 (PED).
