The Council of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad del Valle, in use of its powers and especially those conferred by Articles 31o and 35o, paragraphs a), b), e) and p) of the General Statute (Agreement No. 004 of 1996 of the Superior Council); created the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Engineering -CEIFI- by Resolution No. 302 of December 15, 2020, in accordance with the principles and guidelines defined by the Central Committee of Research Ethics of the Universidad del Valle.

Nature: The Research Ethics Committee of the School of Engineering (CEIFI) is an advisory body of the School, appointed to review and evaluate research projects that require ethical evaluation and in which the academic community of the School of Engineering participates.

Objectives: The Research Ethics Committee of the School of Engineering will be responsible for:

1. To ensure the protection of the rights, safety and welfare of living beings, and in general for the protection of the biosphere, directly or indirectly involved in the processes of research, technological development and/or innovation, submitted to its consideration.
2. Evaluate research projects that may involve ethical aspects, especially related to/with: human beings; animal samples and/or biological material of animal origin; material that represents a biosafety risk; archives and/or databases containing sensitive information; technological systems; archeological sites, heritage sites and/or protected areas.
3. Ensure that Engineering, Technology and Innovation programs and projects have foreseen the possible risks, burdens or intrusions that affect aspects related to human welfare, health and the environment, considering the manner in which the respective control or management will be carried out in the event of an impact.

The Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty will be formed by professors of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad del Valle. The professors must have the capacity to review and evaluate the projects of the academic community of the Faculty of Engineering, regarding the ethical aspects previously defined by the Committee, according to the proposals of the Central Committee of Research Ethics of the Universidad del Valle.

The members of the Committee will represent the interests of the university community, with freedom of action, prudence and honesty.
